With a spectacular eye for color and a specialty in creative residential interiors, Rachel Oliver strives to design memorable interiors that are functional and unpredictable at the same time. The process begins with detailed drawings and hand-drawn illustrations to help the client see Rachel’s and her client’s vision come to life. Crafted with a careful balance of the client’s needs for style and everyday living, Rachel’s ultimate goal is a comfortably chic interior. The process doesn’t stop there. An important part of Rachel’s design philosophy is repurposing furniture and fixtures not only to create a budget-friendly design, but also her desire for an eco-friendly creation. Built around the ideas of balance, texture, color, and shape, Rachel’s designs come to life and a perfect example of this process is seen in her recent guest bedroom redesign project.
The ultimate challenge for any designer, this guest bedroom is very small and was in desperate need of an update. However, it presented a unique opportunity for Rachel to work her creative magic. So many amazing features are present in this bedroom design update. The decorative pillows on the beds are made from left over linens and different sized ribbons to both mimic the look of an expensive fabric and stay within budget. The black detail along the ceiling is actually black grosgrain ribbon that was dipped in starch and installed as a faux crown molding, a fraction of the price but definitely not short on creativity. Lastly, inexpensive and personalized art was created fro the room by painting the frames of IKEA shadow boxes to match the space and are hung from picture hanging hooks to protect the wall.
