New Year, New Home: Thinking Outside the Box

With 2014 fast approaching, we begin to wonder what we have accomplished this year, and even more importantly what great goals we have for the next year.  This year has been a fruitful one for interior design, and with so much inspiration readily at our disposal things are starting to look a little cookie cutter. A new year is a great time to embrace a great change and why not start with our homes. Check out these 6 ways to think outside the box in 2014, and create one awe inspiring home that is far from ordinary.

Floors, we all have them, but we rarely do anything to them. This wood pattern really makes this room really stand out.

You want an old world charm in your living room? Don’t worry this isn’t actual plaster, its just a very awesome, simple to adhere, wallpaper.

If you don’t already 2014 is the year to embrace color, be bold and mix pinks with yellows and oranges.

Sometimes in order to think outside the box we need to create a box. In this case bare wall can turn  into a  beautiful closet space, no furniture needed.

That old dresser you have laying around, use it! There are so many easy DIY videos to guide you through sanding and staining your old furniture, the time is now.

One last outside the box idea that is absolutely simple is painting your door, whether its a fun color like this pink door, or even a black one with white details.

How to Style your Bar Cart

As avid Interior Design pinners, we couldn’t help but notice the abundance of bar carts on the web. Not only are they adorable pieces of furniture to fit into smaller spaces, they also house all of those amazing bottles of wine you just had stashed in the back of your cupboard, or what about those beautiful cups no one ever gets to see.  Whether it’s for a party, or a permanent fixture of your home, here are five easy ways of styling your bar cart.

1. A bar cart doesn’t need to include only beverages, style it with one of your favorite bowls and add lemons, or use that trinket box you just can’t seem to find a use for.

2. Bar carts with wheels are a must, they are great for positioning  just about anywhere during  a party. Feel free to add a flower vase, vintage style decanters , and festive straws.

3. Bar Carts are also a great option for outdoor events. You can even create and print a small menu for a more personalized touch.

A Buckinghamshire Country Retreat by Staffan Tollgard Design Group

This weeks getaway takes us to Buckinghamshire in south east England. This county of England is known for its open countryside, its stunning views of nature, and various historic houses still used as private homes. With the hustle and bustle of daily life we were taken aback by the tranquility of this country style home designed by UK based Staffan Tollgard Design Group. It seems we aren’t the only ones wishing to get away, musicians such as Andrew Fletcher from Depeche Mode, Noel Gallagher of Oasis, and Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees, have all owned homes in this beautiful county.

While a very traditional British facade on the outside, the inside is filled with wanderlust.

Strong Asian influences can be seen in both art and statues throughout the home.

The combination of blue and white jars and accessories, worldly wooden furniture, and traditional curtains and upholstery, create quite the living room area.

Mid Century Chinese Chinoiserie can be found throughout the home, and make a big impression in the master bedroom.

Talk about a desk with a view! Splashes of red, and the intricate details carved into this desk are spectacular.

This stately domed hallway offers a view of the idyllic  British countryside.

Hope you enjoyed the DS getaway of the week, make sure to like us on Facebook for daily inspiration.
